Tour Article Number Twenty Three - Hingurana Sugar Factory

Hingurana is located 12km from Ampara in the Ampara Siyambalanduwa road. If you want to go to the factory it is in 350m from the Hingurana roundabout. This is closed for some time but now the machines are working again. Now this is started as private factory join with the Gal Oya plantations. I have opportunity to visit this factory from my friend whose father is working in here. When I go to this factory, the machines are stopped working. However they helped me to know the procedure of making sugar. This is the things that I understood and the thing in my memory. The photos were linked because it takes long time to load.

First of all this machine is the lifting method of the load of sugar canes. It can lift 10 tons at one time. There are two machines like this. The machines put the load in to these plates and the chains on the plate will move them to this channel. For one time it will put 3 tons for the channel. In first wheel was arranging the sugar canes and burst them a little. After that the next wheel was chopped the sugar cane. Then cut in to pieces of the size of near one inch. These all happens on the moving plate and then it goes to inside of the factory.

Inside the Factory first those goes to allocating the treacle made of sugarcane. In here the chopped cane will grind from these machines. One machine has three sub units which has small channels on it. When cane goes through it, molasses will allocate to the tanks which are positions in the down of the machine. After the waste, was coming through moving plate. All the units in the factory use the steam power, which produces by this boiler. Wood takes for the start the boiler and then uses the waste cane. Long time ago they use the fuel for the engines but now only uses the wood. Then the heat produced was use in this press to make steam pressure to 250 pounds per inch. Then distribute all over the factory. There is a level to see the water level inside the press. Bottom of the boiler has a place to remove charcoal.

Then we go to see the power house of the factory. It’s also works from the steam turbine. This turbine was rotating 6000 rounds per minutes. Whole machines were working by these 440 volts electricity which produces form the power house. But sometimes it takes electricity from the Celon electricity board. But when the factory stopped working then the electricity was give to the Celon electricity board. And also there was a fuse to save the machines from the variation of the electricity. That is taken from old ship and present from the foreign county to Sri Lanka in the D. S. Senanayaka time. This fuse was keeping the Electricity in balanced level.

Allocated molasses will pomp to this big tank then mix the carbide to the tank. Carbide uses for the remove the mud and other colluviums in the molasses. When mixing carbide, they check the pH value by this machine. In the past, they use to this process slaked lime and the sulfur. In the tank the weight limit comes to the 1 ton, and then automatically releases the valve and pump to another place. And there is a meter to count the number of tons for the day. Then the molasses will pump to the steam burners and then heat for high temperature and then give high pressure such as 200 pounds per inch. Inside these burners has number of tubes, and they flow the molasses up and down to get the temperature quickly. And also the tubes were bend like this because to stop the beating of the steam flux. And this big tank use to clean the hard water. It’s doing for save the tubes from the chemical layers which corroded inside the tubes.

Then again there is another tank to collect that molasses. It is always rotating in small speed. In the tank the mud and the colluviums go to deep and clean molasses comes up. Different levels got valves and by the checking pump the clean molasses to another unit in the factory. Impure molasses clean by special machine. This machine was taken for that process. it was a cylindrical one which rotates touching impure molasses. And inside it there is a vacuum system to suck the pure molasses. And the outside of the cylinder has plate with tiny holes. And also when rotating it will clean the outside of the cylinder and remove the colluvium and mud. Load tයem outside the factory.

Then the next unit supposes to do the molasses in to pebbles. And then clean as a sugar. It is doing by given special conditions. And put some chemicals. Those chemicals did not collide with sugar but helps to increase the size of the pebbles. When it makes the pebbles in correct size it will pump to another level and other will go through again in this process. These molasses liquid is always mixing by using rotating axes inside the tanks. Next step is to remove the molasses and dry out the sugar. For that the molasses liquid put in to high pressure and spray through the heated air. For that it used a rotating cylinder. Inside this cylinder have lots of metalplates to increase the surface area. End of this cylinder there is a hole to collect the sugar and sugar dust will collected separately. Then again the sugar dust will use to make liquid and then again in to sugar pebbles.

There is some mechanism to stop the lumpish of the sugar. And then collect to big tanks. From bottom of the tanks there is automatically release 50kg at one time and collect them to gunny bags. Then after all bags goes to stores. And there is a mechanism to cool the water for the factory. That is a pond with sprinklers. One channel goes to factory with cool water and another channel goes to pond with hot water to the pond. If the heat of the pond increases the hot water channel will change and another cool water channel will open for the pond.

Before you love think these things also......!

Girl’s life is a small world for her. It is started form her parents, changes with her husband and ends with her children. Now you are thinking that what is going to tell me today. Am I writing? First I’ll tell you why I’m going to tell this. It is because of my friends. Now a day’s most of people try to love someone to find there life partner. But in our old times it is not in our culture. First propose and then see horoscopes. If they match then the marriage takes place. But now it is changed.

Now a day’s most of my friends find their love. They even do not know how much of those will ends with the marriage. Because present people thinks love is as an only a word, only a fashion. They do not know the true meaning of love. Today they meet one they love that person then tomorrow another one. Some of boyfriends got several girlfriends. And mobile phones make this problem worst. They do not have any time to do useful thing to country or their future. They only try to talk hours and hours with their love one after another. Oh, I’m going to wrong direction from the story.

So when they become lovers, the boyfriend will put some regulations to girlfriend such as you have to eat like this, dress like this have to these places, do not do these things, etc. But this all the things are which of the things that boyfriend do not like. I have a question. Is there no life for a girl or do not he likes? Think a little. They suffer there life time which they have to enjoy. In childhood they do not have experiences about life so it was dangerous. So parents put some regulations. Then after release them to world when they can understand what is right and what is wrong. But when they got freedom from their parents, they want to have a boyfriend to feel their freedom. But that one also put the regulations and shows some colorful world. Then girl thinks this is the world i was imagined. But it is not. They think to become one, and then we will enjoy our freedom. After the marriage is there any time for freedom? They have to earn money for live and to build a place to live. After that they got children and their works.  After all of this things they thinks “Oh god the time was passed for enjoy my life. Now there is nothing left.” then sorrow “I am unable to do those things in my life.”  But then it’s all over.

My solution for that is, this is the time for enjoy your life so do it. But keep your things in your limit which is in your culture and understand your parents told you in your childhood. Another thing to think is that will that boyfriend give a freedom for your life in future which is now he did not give you? Meaning of love which I can understand is a something that the couple will help each other to solve their problems and work with better understanding. And they must prepare to face to the future. Love is not the wasting time for chatting only. Think that do you want person who do not care other things except love which they even do not know the meaning of that word?

Think these things in both sides. I have a request from Boyfriends; Give a pleasure for the small world which got your girlfriends. But do not destroy their life, with showing you doing it. And from the girlfriends; do not try to destroy your life to get temporary pleasure for your life.

What we are learning and what we want to learn?

This is the question when we are in-front of the border of the life. There is a simple answer for that. That is we are learning things that we do not want to learn but our parents do.

First of all I must say now a days the children who goes to schools, till the very first day of the school life they can hear only one thing. That is "You must become a Doctor" or "You must become a Engineer". fist starts with grade 5. they said "You must pass grade 5 exams to go to a better school which assigned by the government as a great school". For fulfill their wants children must go to extra classes and always they must study. Sometimes i have seen that the bags of little poor guys. that bags was difficult to lift us also. Because of books. Dear parents do you want them as coolie or else?.

Then after students will be on O/L classes. In that time parents says "My dear you must study hard to get high marks for all subjects in the exams". then again in the A/L, same scenario happens. But the truth is a small amount of students only can go to universities and a very little for medicine or engineering from among them. what about others? They will choose another paths which they never wants to be. Now we are in between several questions. Why was that? How could people work with a profession that field they do not have an interest. I think this is the main reason to get the name for our country as a still developing country.

Now this is my explanation for this matter. We should leave the child to catch their dream on there own. Until they get in to grade 8 or 9, they should have freedom to think with they small, creativity brain. They will recognize their profession and they will chosen by no one except them self. then they will choose their path and let them go with it. then it will create different people with different jobs and specialist for each jobs.

There is something important. All of you who reading this is knows that fire will burn you and it hurts. But I have a question. Did you ever thinks that how did you know that or how did you learn that?. In that moment some people will say "I heard it. So I know that." but get some small time and think a little. Don't you ever burnt. Then you will think and will say "yes!". That was the answer. You know that because you feel the experience. So my point is if you want to know what you can do, is try to do something . And if you want to get the goal for a task. then you should do nothing but everything. then you will be able to do something.

Keep this things on your mind

This article is for the travelers. But there is a thing that I want to  tell you. There are people who wish to travel all around the world. But they never start it. If you want to climb a hill, you have to put your first step. Then only you can do it. In our people always got dreams which they never try to achieve.

I have my own terms to get success my life. You have to use them also. But there is no limits. One thing is "Nothing is impossible if you have right tools". Some times you were here about this. but I have a question. Do you try to understand what it says? Definitely your mind will say NO. but your mouth says YES. Because you are always try to act as perfect but you are not. And another thing is "If you want to do something you have to learn nothing but everything". This will lead your self to a perfect.

When you are finish some work, you feel that the work is not succeeded. Your fail to do it. But always think that was worked. That is my limit. And I will increase my limits. studying is never ends and do not waste your time for a one thing. Use your brain and try to do new things always. Then you can to be a proud man. And finally I want to say this. Please be use your heart and be kind to people who work with you. help others when you can.

The things what we can learn from the movies

The movies, this is a matter for some of countries because lots of students and children addicted to watching movies without purpose. And they lose their studies to watch movies and drama. But never learn anything. They know only the names of actors and actresses. Why these things happen.

And some sort of students knows the story what produced from the director’s multinational idea. But some of stories are about myth only. Now I am going to talk about lessons we can learn from these movies. And they show us that how the society is acts. For that you have to differentiate the story of the directors and the story of the Society. Now you will ask me a question. Is that possible?

Yes, Indeed. It is possible. In my lips always have a saying? “Nothing is impossible if you have right tools”. There are two movies that I can remind at ones. One says how to teach and other one says how to learn. First one is “Taare Zameen par” and the second one is “3 idiots”. Likewise there are lots of stories what had a meaning. But unfortunately lots of people watch movies for pleasure only. But there is a story on background which can’t change by director without using studio. The movie tries to show that the imaginable life styles and people that is not available in real world.

So I am trying to say is we need to watch movies but have to think what the things we can gain from the movie are. For an example I learn and improve my English and the Hindi language knowledge by watching movies. And most of woman’s who lives in Arabic countries can speak Hindi because of these Hindi movies.
